TOP TEN TUESDAY

TOP TEN SERIES I WOULD LIKE TO START...
BUT HAVEN'T YET

Brought to us by The Broke and the Bookish

1.    I want to put this one out here first.  I am so embarrassed being the book lover that I am, that I haven't got around to even reading the first line of the first page of the first book!

2.    I am dying to read it, really.  I do have a little bit of series-itis going on and I'm afraid of book commitment.  I've heard rumors that my freshman son will be assigned this book in the Spring.  Maybe I'll jump on the bandwagon then.

3.    I know.  Can a person even admit that without being booed and hissed?

4.    I have two serious fanboys in this house and I won't even read not one line of this with them.  Why?  Because cartoons/graphic books drive me bananas.  Oh, I want to be part of the snorts and giggles that I hear when there is a new one in the house.  I just can't.

5.    I wish I would have read these when there were only a few books.  Now I think there are too many for me to catch up - just when it hits the big screen with Tom Cruise, too.

6.    I read The Hobbit several years ago.  Enjoyed it for what it was and then never really read the series.  Now that it has been a movie, I doubt that I ever will.

7.    Sarah Says Read, if you are reading this, do not hit me over the head with one of your hardcovers.  I actually read Outlander, but could not find it in me to commit to 1000 page books.

8.    See Outlander reason above.  I can't read 1000 page books.  I really even have trouble with 500+ books.  I want to desperately read these though.

9.    I read the first of this one too.  But by the time I did, I was thoroughly rung out on vampires and just didn't see a future for me with this series.
10.   I read a review.  It was one thumb up and one thumb down.  Should I commit?  It's the one I've been mulling most recently.

  1. It takes great courage to tell the world you haven't read Wimpy Kid or Harry Potter. Good for you!

Here's my list of Top Ten Series I'd Like to Read.

  2. I too have not read harry Potter, but really want to and need to and I am embarrassed that I have not. I love the films.

I would highly recommend Lord of the Rings. It is just incomparably good.

    1. When HP books came out, my kids were just infants. I wasn't in to YA. And then when my boys began to grow, they were just a year or so too young for the movies and we missed another opportunity. Now they are teens and they are so not in to reading at all. The whole set sits on our bookshelf just waiting for someone to love them. Grandchildren perhaps?

  3. Watch the Song of Ice and Fire series on the tele - it's just as good (I'll say even a wee bit better than) the books. And The Hunger Games - what?!!! Not even going to go there :-)

  4. As I scrolled through your list my jaw dropped further and further! No HP? No Divergent? No Hunger Games! You need to fix this! ;)

But as a consolation, I also have Game of Thrones and Unearthly on my list, and I've only read the first book from the LOTR series.

  5. Holy cow. I'm with Bekka. I cannot believe you haven't read these! Stop blogging and go read HP, Hunger Games and LOTR asap. :-p Okay, don't stop blogging, but seriously get on that!

  6. Oh wow. Harry Potter.. Hunger Games... so many good ones! :) I really enjoyed the Charlaine Harris series but it has definitely lost steam in the last few books. The Outlander series is one of my favorite series ever and I have difficulty with huge books too. The Game of Thrones books were such a struggle even though they were really good. I've worked my way through two of them but I think I've given up. Good luck with getting these knocked out! :)

I really want to read Unearthly, LOTR & Game of Thrones too, they all sound awesome.
Hope you manage to read some of these series' soon! :)

    1. I'm going to give it a try. Maybe this meme was just what I needed to see how dire the situation really was.

  8. No Harry?
    You must change that.

I tried the Outlander series and didn't dig it.

    With you on Divergent.

Unearthly is good but I haven't finished the series.

  9. I love you for admitting to not having read HP, Divergent and Hunger Games. I've read them, but I totally understand your feelings towards them. Sometimes I have fear of book commitment, too. I'm also sometimes afraid I'm going to be the only one who hates really popular things.

I am SO with you on George R.R. Martin. I just can't do that many pages right now.

Thanks for stopping by my TTT!

  10. I haven't read Divergent or Outlander either! And I'll add my "you really must read HP and HG!" to the crowd. They're so completely and totally worth it. I hadn't read the Hunger Games series until just before the movie came out (and not because of that, I was just being stubborn...don't know why...stupid, really). I also read The Hobbit years ago...jeez, 10 years, I think...and would like to give those books another go.

    1. It's just that my TBR is sooooo long and to take time out for a series makes me edgey.

  11. I so hope that you get to Harry, Divergent, and especially Game of Thrones. All of those series have blown me away. GOT and Harry will be counted among my top series EVER in life!

  12. I won't boo and hiss at you for not reading 'The Hunger Games' I just say GET ON IT!! It is awesome haha. 'Divergent' and 'Unearthly' are really good too. 'Harry Potter' is definitely a must read. This is a great list :)

  13. I'm surprised at the number of people who haven't read Harry Potter! It really is an awesome series.

  14. If I were you I'd quietly read the Harry Potter series without making a big whoop out of it ;) You shouldn't be embarrassed that you haven't read them, but you definitely should read them asap. I promise that you'll fall in love with them.

LOTR is fabulous too. It's been a LONG time since I read those.

I'll get to the Game of Thrones series one of these days.

The Hunger Games...hmm. I read them for some reason, lol. If you want to know what everyone is going on about you could read them. But don't lose sleep over it if you don't ;)

  15. Lots of great series on your list. Lord of the Rings can get bogged down in description of plants and scenic views, but still worthy. I really really enjoyed Book 1 of the Hunger Games, but not so much the next 2. Just starting Book 2 of GRRMartin's epic series - excellent.

Have you tried listening to the audio versions for the larger books? Great if you have a commute or lots of house chores.

  16. Aww Belle, I promise to never beat you with Outlander! LOL I understand not wanting to read such massive books if you don't absolutely love it.

I have Divergent on my shelf... I think I may start it soonish. I hear there's a movie coming out and I don't think I've heard a single bad thing about the series.

  17. Lol. I love your list. I need to read Outlander too! I haven't read The Lord of the Rings trilogy (but I also don't plan to... oops!).

  18. I love so many of these lol! Outlander, Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games. I have been thinking about reading the Divergent series myself. I read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books for work, they take like 30 minutes to read; I don't necessarily think they are all that great, but they are not terrible. :)

  19. I have read all the Harry Potter series, but that was only because a family member gave me one of the books (Order of Phoenix) so I read them out of order.
I have read Divergent, Lord of The Rings (first 2 in the series anyway), and I read the whole Hunger Games trilogy in a few days. It was before the movie was due to be released in the cinemas and I wanted to read The Hunger Games before I saw the movie, but I couldn't stop reading them.
I haven't read Uneartly, A Game of Thrones (I own a boxset of A Song of Ice and Fire, haven't read any of them) and I've only read the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. I haven't gotten around to reading any more of them.
